Professional Program

We believe in Creating S.P.A.C.E to make disability a comfortable conversation in our workplaces through SEL (social emotional learning) and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) practices.

Workshop Objectives

  • Understand the purpose of the Creating S.P.A.C.E. core values.
  • Understand what a safe space is and how to create it in and outside of the workplace.
  • Implement correct terms and vocabulary around disability.
  • Explore ways to discuss disability with co-workers, clients, and stakeholders.

Program Outline

During our time together we will be focusing on making disability a comfortable conversation. We will hone in on the following.

  • Safe Spaces - Discuss what makes a safe space.
  • Storytelling - Hear stories from Creating S.P.A.C.E team members. They will share their experiences working in professional environments and how they have been treated based on their disability.
  • Permission - Dig into the definition of permission and how to integrate that into professional and personal environments. 
  • Language - Lessons on offensive vocabulary and what never to say as well as current, non-offensive terminology.
  • Education - Small group discussions using Creating S.P.A.C.E provided thought-provoking questions. This will be followed by a large group sharing opportunity and debrief.
